How Addictive Is Social Network Platform?

Last week on the 6th of August, some of the major social network platform such as Twitter, YouTube and LiveJournal all reported denial-of-service attacks. This resulted in service outage, slowness and a host of other problems for the popular websites.
The Twitter network come down for more tahn an hour and hit Twitterers real bad. Facebook had its service degraded for some users whilst LiveJournal also experienced a denial-of-service attack.
All through this downtime, scores of social media enthusiasts could not access their favourite networking websites and most felt an impact on their daily activities.
Social media has become so much a part of everyday life that it has, to an extent, become addictive for some.
So how addictive is the social network platform?
