Tony Blair, Prime MInister 1997 - 2007
I was privileged to be able to attend the National Achievers Congress (NAC) Singapore 2010 last week. Held at the Singapore Expo from 27th – 29th April, Mr Tony Blair, Prime Minister of Great Britain and Nothern Ireland 1997 – 2007 was the keynote speaker. Mr Tony Blair’s presence together with other renowned and distinguished speakers from around the world inspired some 3500 participants who attended the event.
In its 18th year, NAC has invited various gurus to share with us their wisdom and pave the way for us to achieve a life of love, freedom and contribution. The only Prime Minister in 150 years who had a child whilst in office, Mr Tony Blair spoke to a crowd who gave him a standing ovation.
With humour, Mr Tony Blair shared with us ten facts that he learned during his tenure as Prime Minister. Here is a gist of Mr Tony Blair’s speech.
1. Have the humility to learn
Always have the humility to realize there is a lot we do not know and be prepared to learn. No one becomes a teacher before learning.
2. Start with an analysis of the situation
Understand the situation and analyse it before making decisions.
3. In a fast changing world, you can’t stand still
In these times of change where the world is changing so fast, you have got to change fast too and be capable of embracing new ideas to keep up with the present times.
4. New thinking and new ideas don’t come to a closed mind
Mr Tony Blair emphasized the importance of education.
5. Success is about developing your education
6. Change is the hardest thing
If you are not prepared to change, you will not succeed. Change is tough and can be hell. The process of change is a difficult one.
7. Success is about great partnerships as well as great individuals
The purpose of partnership is to fight for a better idea. Ideas cannot be achieved without partnerships.
8. Partnership and prejudice are inconsistent with each other
Treat people with respect and as equals. Humanity is, after all, one whole being.
9. Idea has in it a set of values
The success of people has never been about just doing. It is about believing in something. Successful people are determined. They work hard, have a purpose and get along with people.
10. To succeed, you need optimism and a certain sense of possibility
Stop moaning and start believing in yourself. You will never succeed if you are not prepared to fail. In whatever you do, have confidence and strive for success. Never give up!
It was wonderful being able to hear Mr Tony Blair, Prime Minister, in person. Mr Tony Blair’s speech at the National Achievers Congress, Singapore, was definitely one of the most awaited speeches.
