Word-of-mouth campaigns can be a valuable tool in your business’s overall marketing strategy. They often generate quality referrals because customers rely on recommendations from trusted sources more than they do from advertisements. Additionally, the costs associated with running a successful word-of-mouth campaign are usually a fraction of what a traditional advertising campaign can run.

But what you save in dollars spent you will need to replace with time and effort. On top of delivering the highest quality product or service possible, you’ll need to plan and execute a schedule of networking events that will put you in front of people and begin to build your credibility.

Below, I’ve assembled a list of 10 credibility-enhancing materials that you should have at your disposal in order to make the most of every networking opportunity and ultimately build a successful word-of-mouth campaign. Not every item should be used at the first point of contact with a potential client or someone who can refer clients to you.

For the Early Networking Stages:

1. A one-page flyer.
Have a brief overview of your business ready to pass along at all times in case you meet someone while networking who wants to quickly pass along your information to a prospective client he or she knows. You should have a hard copy to fax and an electronic copy to email.

2. Question-and-answer sheets.
One of the quickest ways to learn about a person’s business as a networker, and for him or her to learn about yours, is to make the initial meeting as organized as possible. A sheet with questions that you can each ask each other can ensure you don’t forget to find out the information that could lead to a quick referral.

3. Testimonial letters from satisfied clients.
This can be one of the most effective ways to showcase the quality of the products or services you provide. You can keep hard copies in a binder or post them to your website. If you have a LinkedIn profile, ask the clients in your network to “recommend” you.

4. Photos of yourself, your office facilities, products and awards.
Having a professional photo of yourself is important for promotional opportunities and for your social media profiles. Photos of your office or business operation and products help to legitimize your business and gain credibility. Also consider having photos of awards and certificates you and your staff have earned.

5. Items that explain your business.
These can include: your annual report, mission statement or a written history of your company. You can also use information published articles, results from surveys created and compiled by you or by others in your industry, presentation notes or slides, your advertisements, or multimedia presentations.

For the Later Networking Stages:

6. New-product or service announcements.
As you network, make sure the people who might potentially hire you or refer others to you are immediately informed when you offer new products or services or if you are expanding operations. The best way to do this is through press releases and announcements. In addition to submitting these to news outlets, you can hand them out at meetings or post them online. Also consider having brochures, data sheets and catalogs for your current products and services.

7. A list of your memberships and affiliations.
This can be helpful when meeting someone for the first time, to see if you have mutual acquaintances or business associates. It may also lead to an introduction to someone in one of your organizations to whom you have been hoping to be introduced.

8. Articles you have published or in which you’re mentioned.
Writing articles, or being mentioned in them, is a great way to become known as an expert in your field. People often prefer doing business with experts.

9. Client or customer proposals, bid sheets, or marketing letters.
Keeping this information top-of-mind will come in handy if you are at a networking event and have the opportunity to talk to a prospective client in depth. The prospect may have a specific need that is similar in scope to jobs you have already bid on. Having the ability to quickly refer to previously-completed proposals may give you an edge with the prospect.

10. News reports on trends affecting your target market.
Keeping up with issues and news items that are important to people can enable you to have targeted conversations with prospects. Then, ideally, you’ll be able to discuss your related products and services and turn those prospects into clients.

A Little Confession

Personalized Greeting Cards

Personalized Greeting Cards

Indeed, it is very embarrassing for me to make this little confession, but to be very honest, as those who know me would understand my character, I like to be truthful, honest and open at all times.

Integrity is doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching.

Before I started to send out cards to friends, family and loved ones, I was never one for sending out greeting cards. When I was young, my mum always made me send Christmas greeting cards especially to relatives.  As the years pass, with the green movement, I used that as an excuse and soon stopped sending out any greeting cards.

That was when I switched over to e cards and as time passed, I became lazier and lazier and since I did not feel that e cards made much of an impact, it soon came to pass that I stopped sending out any cards.

It was not until a year or so ago that I came across this unique online greeting card system that somehow perked up my interest again.  As this online system is not only simple to use, it also allows me to personalize my greeting cards by adding pictures of my recipient.

Not only does this online greeting card system allow me to manage my contact management system, I am actively reminded of birthdays and anniversaries.  This allows me to spend more time personalizing my cards and customizing them with a heartfelt message for each and every of my recipient.

Or I could also send out a campaign to a group of a hundred people in just five short minutes.

I don’t have to worry about running to the shops to buy an appropriate card for the occasion.  I don’t have to worry about getting the right sized envelopes and licking the stamps on.  I don’t have to worry about getting to the mailbox to post these personalized greeting cards.  How wonderful is that?  :)

Due to the flexibility of the system, I have not only started sending out more greeting cards including thank you, special holidays, congratulations and so on as it brightens up my day when my recipients acknowledge the cards and thank me for touching their lives and making a difference in their lives, I am also having a fun time seeing the happiness in others.

If you feel that you could add joy to someone’s life and light up their life by sending a little card, feel free to do so…  These personalized greeting cards will definitely make their day!

Network Marketing Success

Network Marketing Success

I am sure all of you will agree that it is very easy to be a network marketer.  But how many of you can truly say that you are a network marketing success and gain financial freedom from your network marketing business opportunity!  To be a truly successful network marketer, there are 8 leadership principles that you must follow for any MLM multi level marketing business according to Kody Bateman, founder of SendOutCards.

1.  Be in alignment with the mission of the company

In this area, Kody’s advice is to keep things simple and work with the company towards fulfilling its mission.

2.  Humility is the foundation to success

Even celebrities and well-known figures need coaches.  Thus if you wish to be successful, you need to be coachable.  Be prepared to ask questions and start from scratch.  There is no way where you can coach others, not until you learn how to be coachable yourself.

3.  Recognize others and celebrate success

Always be there for your team members and support them.  People yearn to be recognized and you create goodwill and cheer when you celebrate successes, even small ones.

4.  Be a leader by creating leaders

Network marketing is a business where you are in a business for yourself, but not by yourself.  You have a tea with you.  If you are able to create leaders amongst your team members, that will be the start of your journey in creating true residual income.

5.  You get exactly what you focus on

If you believe you can, you probably can.  If you believe you won’t, you most assuredly won’t.  Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad ~ Dennis Waitley

6.  Wherever you are, be there

Always be present and give your utmost attention to what you are doing.  If you are attending an event, be ’in’ the event, not just ‘at’ the event.

7.  Keep a balanced focus on your business

Do not focus on a half empty glass.  Problems are everywhere.  Do not get caught up with problems and unplug yourself from the road to success.  Continue working your business everyday.

8.  Always be working on your MLM blueprint

Do you still harbour limiting beliefs on network marketing business opportunities?  Even Robert Kiyosaki endorses network marketing due to its many advantages such a no overheads, no inventory, minimal start up capital, low monthly investment a d a business you can call your own.

Whatever business you are in, you need to work it with passion and persevere.  Never, ever give up!  Success is just a step away.  Be coachable and employ the 8 leadership principles for even greater success in your MLM multi level marketing and network marketing business opportunity.  Then and only then can you be a network marketing success!

Effective Leadership

Effective Leadership

The Qualities of Skillful Leadership by Jim Rohn

If you want to be a leader who attracts quality people, the key is to become a person of quality yourself. Leadership is the ability to attract someone to the gifts, skills, and opportunities you offer as an owner, as a manager, as a parent. I call leadership the great challenge of life. What’s important in leadership is refining your skills. All great leaders keep working on themselves until they become effective.

Here are some specifics:
1. Learn to be strong but not rude.
It is an extra step you must take to become a powerful, capable leader with a wide range of reach. Some people mistake rudeness for strength. It’s not even a good substitute.

2. Learn to be kind but not weak.
We must not mistake kindness for weakness. Kindness isn’t weak. Kindness is a certain type of strength. We must be kind enough to tell somebody the truth. We must be kind enough and considerate enough to lay it on the line. We must be kind enough to tell it like it is and not deal in delusion.

3. Learn to be bold but not a bully.
It takes boldness to win the day. To build your influence, you’ve got to walk in front of your group. You’ve got to be willing to take the first arrow, tackle the first problem, discover the first sign of trouble.

4. You’ve got to learn to be humble, but not timid.
You can’t get to the high life by being timid. Some people mistake timidity for humility. Humility is almost a God-like word. A sense of awe. A sense of wonder. An awareness of the human soul and spirit. An understanding that there is something unique about the human drama versus the rest of life. Humility is a grasp of the distance between us and the stars, yet having the feeling that we’re part of the stars. So humility is a virtue; but timidity is a disease. Timidity is an affliction. It can be cured, but it is a problem.

5. Be proud but not arrogant.
It takes pride to win the day. It takes pride to build your ambition. It takes pride in community. It takes pride in cause, in accomplishment. But the key to becoming a good leader is being proud without being arrogant. In fact I believe the worst kind of arrogance is arrogance from ignorance. It’s when you don’t know that you don’t know. Now that kind of arrogance is intolerable. If someone is smart and arrogant, we can tolerate that. But if someone is ignorant and arrogant, that’s just too much to take.

6. Develop humor without folly.
That’s important for a leader. In leadership, we learn that it’s okay to be witty, but not silly. It’s okay to be fun, but not foolish.

7. Lastly, deal in realities.

Deal in truth. Save yourself the agony. Just accept life like it is. Life is unique. Some people call it tragic, but I’d like to think it’s unique. The whole drama of life is unique. It’s fascinating. And I’ve found that the skills that work well for one leader may not work at all for another. But the fundamental skills of leadership can be adapted to work well for just about everyone: at work, in the community, and at home.

Regina Brett’s 45 life lessons and 5 to grow on

by Regina Brett, The Plain Dealer

May 28, 2006

To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.

It is the most-requested column I’ve ever written. My odometer rolls over to 50 this week, so here’s an update:

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.

8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.

12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry; God never blinks.

16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.

17. You can get through anything if you stay put in today.

18. A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.

19. It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Overprepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: “In five years, will this matter?”

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.

35. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.

36. Growing old beats the alternative – dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.

38. Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.

41. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

42. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.

43. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

44. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

45. The best is yet to come.

46. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

47. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

48. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.

49. Yield.

50. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift…

The Pareto 80-20 Rule

Pareto 80 20 Rule

Pareto 80 20 Rule

Have you heard of the Pareto 80-20 rule?  Also known as the law of the vital few, the 80-20 rule states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.  If you are successful in a home based MLM business, you will realize that approximately 20 % of your organization will bring in 80 % of your income.

For any home based MLM business, if you wish to succeed, you need to play the ‘numbers’ game.  Statistics show that only about 20% who join your business opportunity will work the business.  This means that out of 1,000 people in your organization, only about 200 will get to work and this is where you will derive 80% of your income from.

How committed are you to the business?  How passionate are your beliefs?  How serious are you in achieving your goals?  97% of network marketers fail because they are not committed.  Some give up just before they smell success.  All they needed was Just That Extra Degree.

In the story of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Colonel Sanders, at 65 years of age, cooked his fried chicken for 1009 restaurant owners before someone bought his idea and agreed to give him a nickel for every piece of chicken the restaurant sold.  Thomas Edison found more than 10,000 ways an electric light bulb would not work before he invented the light bulb.

So what can we learn from this?  To be successful, especially in a home based MLM business, here are some tips:-

  1. Regularly work the business. Make it a habit to talk to people about the business on a daily basis.  Set a target to bring in 1 – 4 new distributors every month.
  2. A ‘NO’ now does not mean ‘NO’ forever.  For some people, now is just not the right time.  Some people need a longer time to make a decision before they get started.
  3. Consistently plug into the system.  The best MLM home business opportunity will have a training system sot that you do not have to spend time training your distributors all day long.
  4. Typically 20% of your organization will bring in 80% of your income.  The others may just drop out or get side tracked or simply use the product.  So do not despair.
  5. People with previous MLM experience may not be the eagles you are looking for as they may not be coachable.
  6. The 20% who grow their business are super hungry and not afraid to go all out to achieve their goals.  They are prepared to learn and, in the process, grow.  At the same time, they get to work, possess a coachable mindset and a positive ‘never say die’ attitude.  These are the individuals who grow to be eagles in their MLM network marketing business.
  7. Age is not a barrier if you have the passion, commitment and willpower to go the extra mile.

Take note that it is not the company or compensation plan that will turn out the best and most successful network marketing distributor.  I can give you a company with the most popular products and wonderful compensation plan, but ducks will never grow to be eagles.  Everyone is given a fair opportunity to succeed.  It is how you tap into the ‘X’ factor that will make or break you.

Become a leader and give value to your distributors.  People do not join you for nothing.  They want someone who can lead them to success.  They join someone to whom they are attracted to by the leadership you display and the energy you emit.

Facts tell.  Stories sell.  Learn to tell stories that inspire and motivate people as most great business builders and successful network marketers have become great story tellers.

Last, but not least, believe in yourself.  In doing so, you will create positive vibes in your energy and start attracting people with the same beliefs to your home based MLM business.  Do not get too concerned about the Pareto 80-20 rule.  Simply work the business consistently in order to build and grow your MLM network marketing business and make it the best MLM home business opportunity for you and your team.

Business Referral Network

Business Referral Network

Building good will and credibility among referral sources can benefit your business, as well as theirs.

By Ivan Misner |   February 23, 2011

To be an effective networker, you should constantly be strengthening your relationships with referral sources. The best way to go about this, of course, depends on each individual referral source and what he or she responds to.

So while there isn’t one “best” way to solidify your connections with referral sources, you can take a number of actions to build good will and credibility in those relationships. Here, I offer my top 10 examples that should give you some ideas and get you off on the right foot. This list isn’t exhaustive, so please feel free to add your own actions to it.

1. Arrange a one-to-one meeting. Meeting a referral source in person is an excellent opportunity to learn more about his or her business and interests. Prepare questions in advance so that the conversation flows smoothly. Be ready to give an update on your business and to ask lots of questions about your source’s interests.

After you’ve met at least once, you may also consider inviting him or her to participate in some type of recreational activity, such as a golf outing, fishing trip, concert or play. This can be a good opportunity to let your referral source see a different side of you in an informal setting.

2. Send a thank-you card. A handwritten thank-you card makes a great impression, especially in this age of electronic communication. Be sure to write a personalized note that mentions what you’re thanking your referral source for. If you’d rather send something online, SendOutCards.com is a useful resource.

3. Send a gift. Like a thank-you card, a gift — however small or inexpensive — can help build visibility and credibility with your referral source. Try to find out what his or her likes are (such as favorite foods, hobbies, etc.), and send a gift that is personalized.

4. Call a referral source. An occasional, casual phone call is a good way to keep the relationship strong — when you take care to call only when it’s least likely to be an unwelcome interruption. It’s also a good idea to have a piece of news or some tidbit of information to pass along that will benefit or interest your source. You can set up a file for holding newspaper and magazine clippings that may be of interest to people you would like to be your referral sources. Sending an article, especially one that is pertinent to your source’s current business or personal circumstances, reaffirms that you are thinking about his or her needs.

5. Display a source’s brochure. Doing a bit of sales work on behalf of a referral source can only enhance your relationship. If you have a public area for your business, offer to place your source’s materials where your clients can read them.

6. Extend an invitation. Invite a referral source to a networking event. Introducing him or her to other businesspeople you know gives your source an opportunity to meet others in your target market. It may also provide new business opportunities for you both.

7. Nominate them for an award. Watch for these types of opportunities. Local service and civic organizations often present annual awards recognizing contributions to a particular cause, and local periodicals often sponsor awards contests for businesspeople. Find out which groups and interests your referral source is involved in and check to see if there is a form of recognition associated with them.

8. Include a source in your newsletter. Even a brief mention of a referral source in your newsletter can pay dividends down the road, including the opportunity for them to reciprocate the favor in their own newsletter.

9. Arrange a speaking engagement. Help your referral source get in front of a group that would be interested in his or her business or area of expertise. Local chapters of service organizations, such as Rotary and Kiwanis, are always looking for good speakers. If you belong to a group that invites people to speak, use your contacts to help your source make the rounds among various chapters.

10. Turn the table. Offer your referral source a referral he or she might find useful. It’s often a wonderful way to build your relationship. By helping build your source’s business, you help create a debt of gratitude that will encourage your source to respond in kind.

Have you had success incorporating other techniques that aren’t listed here? If so, I’d love for you to share them in the comments section below.
