Napoleon Hill Think And Grow Rich Summary Chapter 1
WOW! I have heard about Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich book and those who have read it highly recommend it. However, it was not until the previous day when I finally downloaded it, sat down and started reading it. Here is the Think and Grow Rich summary of Chapter 1 from my personal point of view and how it has impacted my life.
One of the stories in chapter 1 of Think and Grow Rich is basically recounting the story of how Edwin C. Barnes’ burning desire to become a partner of the famous Thomas A. Edison came true. In addition, it gives a running commentary of how Barnes managed to overcome all objections and opposition to finally get him into that business association he so desired.
Barnes had nothing to his name to begin with. He had little education, no influence and no money. However, with his burning desire to get into a business alliance with Edison, and his dogged determination to achieve it combined with his initiative and faith, he went on to become Edison’s business partner.
Some of the Law of Success principles include the following ways to translate desire into reality.
* THOUGHTS become THINGS, powerful things when combined with purpose, persistence and burning desire
* It is the THOUGHT that counts
* When one is truly READY for something, it appears
* When one truly DESIRES something deeply and willing to go against all odds to get it, he is sure to win
* Adopt a DEFINITE PURPOSE, and stand by it until it fully consumes you
* A dogged DETERMINATION of a single DESIRE can overcome all objections and opposition, and bring about an opportunity
* OPPORTUNITY may not come in the form that you expect. Be prepared to recognize this trick of opportunity as it frequently presents itself as a misfortune or temporary defeat
* Great SUCCESS comes just one step beyond the point of defeat
* Don’t QUIT! NEVER GIVE UP!
In essence, as Napoleon Hill puts it:- All achievement, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea!
Many of us stop just short of success and give up. Napoleon outlines the story of Darby and his uncle who went on a gold hunt and found their pot of gold. However, they came to a shock when they could no longer find the pot of gold. It seemed as if the vein of gold ore had totally disappeared.
Disappointed, they quit and sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars. Getting expert advice from a mining engineer, the junk man made millions of dollars when the engineer showed that the vein of gold ore was just three feet from where Darby had stopped drilling.
Darby later went on to sell life insurance and everytime he came across prospects who said ‘no’ to buying insurance, he reminded himself that he had stopped just three feet from the gold before and thus he would never stop just because he was faced with ‘no’ from prospective clients.
Riches begin in your mind when you have a definite purpose. Success comes to those who think success. Our brains get powerfully magnetized with our dominant thoughts and attract these back to us. Thus, if you want to be rich, you have to think of being rich and become ‘money conscious’. Create the desire for money which then drives us to create definite plans for acquiring it.
After just reading the first chapter of Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, I managed to set up appointments with 3 different persons over the next 4 days to share a relationship marketing tool which allows people to show gratitude and appreciation to the people in their lives. This is the start of a change in my life!
