Beating Network Marketing Attrition – 5 Key Factors
Apr 21st, 2010 by Veron
If you have been in an MLM Program before, you would agree that although many join MLM business opportunities, almost as many leave completely disillusioned or hop to other network marketing organizations thinking that the grass is greener on the other side. Even the best MLM businesses suffer from such attrition and it is almost impossible to plug the loss.
In a survey of 10,000 network marketers representing 3 different MLM companies, results showed that people get in such network marketing business opportunities for the chance to earn passive residual income but that is not the main pull for them remaining in the company.
Listed below are the 5 key factors contributing to the attrition rate in network marketing, starting from no. 5, the least important factor to no. 1, the leading cause.
5. Opportunity to advance on the compensation plan. Surprisingly this is the least important of the five factors which caught me by surprise. It is true that people join MLM business opportunities for the money, but money alone is not sufficient to keep them loyal to the same company
4. Interesting, compelling and enjoyable work. Other than money, the ability to enjoy doing the MLM business, making it interesting and compelling for them helps to kept he attrition rate low
3. Being filled in on things. Human beings have an innate need to be part of the group, to belong and to be treasured. Just as in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, they want to feel that they belong to a group and that they are part of something even bigger. They do not want to feel left out. The more left out they feel, the more they tend to add to the network marketing attrition rate
2. Friendly associates. As per Maslow’s hierarchy, human beings need to feel love and have esteem needs. Satisfying these needs helps in building teamwork as well and the best MLM companies have leaders who are able to bond their organization. This goes a long way in keeping the representatives happy and fulfilled.
1. Appreciation and recognition of effort. Another name for network marketing or MLM is relationship marketing. This, in essence, summarises the key factor attributing to the network marketing attrition rate i.e. lack of relationship building.
It has been shown that people want to be recognized for a job well done. They wish to receive pats on the back if they have achieved their goal or reached a milestone in their MLM business opportunities. Edifying them and recognizing their achievements in front of others is well worth your effort.
People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Do remember that in any MLM program or MLM business opportunities, it is the best player who stands out and achieves success. If you wish to succeed in your network marketing business opportunities, be it with one of the best MLM businesses or not, take note of the 5 key factors if you wish to reduce your network marketing attrition rate and successfully grow a huge organization.

Great article Thank
you so much!
I think the attrition rate is also dependent on the type of product or service, where people perhaps have a lack of understanding how difficult it can be to compete.
Up until recently I completed avoided most MLM programs for just that reason. I now use a combination of affiliate products and a MLM matrix which has worked well for me and a lot of my colleagues. Our attrition rate at http://myjobfreedom.com/ashmax is well below the norm.
